Oktoberfest Party Decor & Printables

Oktoberfest is one of my absolute favorite parties to throw - beautiful fall weather, German food, and good beer - what's not to love?!

Oktoberfest is a 16 day celebration in Munich, Germany that runs from late September to early October. It is one of the world's largest fairs with over 6 million people attending each year (thank you Wikipedia for that tidbit).

I visited Munich several years ago and fell in love with the city. It has so much to offer - beautiful architecture, rich history, open markets, delicious German food, and of course, festive beer gardens. In fact, my family and I loved Munich so much that when traveling the area, we cut our stay short in Salzburg, rebooked a hotel, and drove back to Munich to spend some extra time. One of these days, I have got to get there for the real Oktoberfest.

In the meantime, I'll stick with celebrating Oktoberfest stateside. Over the past few years, I've thrown several Oktoberfest parties as well as smaller German themed dinner parties. I love to use the blue and white diamond pattern of the Bavarian flag to set the color scheme of the party and pair it with orange, yellow, and red colors of fall.

A navy tablecloth is a great base for the table - I just love how it looks with the orange leaves and pumpkins. As always, festive banners, "Oktoberfest" and "Prost!" (Cheers! in German), are party focal points.

Pretzels strung together on ribbon are fun and edible decorations, guests can wear them for a portable snack while sipping on a beer.

And obviously, beer takes center stage at this party. Paulaner, Warsteiner, and Spaten are a few of my favorite German beers and are readily available at many liquor stores. I snagged these durable glass beer steins at the Dollar Store for a buck each - they can also make festive flower vases.

Even the water bottles are dressed for the occasion (scroll down for the downloadable file).

Oktoberfest is a great party to do as a dinner party but can easily be done as a casual outdoor get together. Finger foods like pretzels, bratwurst sliders, pigs in a blanket, and pierogies fit the bill for a casual feast or have a sit down meal with German classics like schnitzel, spaetzle, bratwurst and sauerkraut.
